About BGC Trust University Bangladesh:
BGC Trust University Bangladesh is
the culmination of a life long dream and philosophy cherished by Engineer
Afsar uddin Ahmad, a reputed industrialist and philanthropist to improve the
socio-economic condition of the people in general and the disadvantaged
rural women and unemployed youth in particular. Towards the translation of
these sublime goals into reality, two non-profit and benevolent
organizations, namely Begum Gul Chemonara Trust and Ibrahim Iqbal
Foundation, which bear the names of his late mother, father and
father-in-law respectively, were setup in the early eighties. For the last
few decades, these charitable organizations are engaged in implementing
development programmes targeted to expand facilities for formal and informal
education, vocational training, agriculture and irrigation, creation of
employment opportunities, poverty alleviation, health care, family planning,
maternity and child care and cash stipend for poor and meritorious students
from the primary up to medical help for the upkeep of widows and the orphans
and poor peasant girls at the time of their marriage. A primary school, a
high school for boys and girls, a vocational training centre on computer,
steno-typing, sewing etc, and also a community are being run by these
organizations. From the 2004 academic session, technical college named "Ibrahim
Iqbal College of Science and Technology" will be set up which would
specialize in different technical studies including Pre-BBA, Pre-Computer
Science, Textile Technology, Electronics etc.
The initiative to establish BGC Trust University
Bangladesh at 'Gul Chemonara Viddyanagar,' Chandanish, Chittagong is bold
step to crystallize the overall process of transformation and up gradation
of social, economic, educational and health care aspects in the life of the
people whom it aims to serve in a humble way. BGC Trust University
Bangladesh adopts a unique approach of combining the dual facilities of
education and health services to the people at affordable cost and
subsidized cost to the poor. It is hoped that the University will become a
center of excellence in the near future, not only in Bangladesh, but also in
the region.
